about your question, that's actually something I'm trying to find out too. I know many artists have their own high-quality printers and do it themselves (I wish I had the funds to buy one too!). Someone on Etsy wrote a good guideline on http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5528596 Perhaps you'll find it helpful.
For my postcards, I used vistaprint.com.au which is OK if you want to print a large batch.
