Reward Yourself

by Joelyne

After buying my apartment in December, I renovated it and then moved in to it on Valentines day – February 14. Apart from paying the mortgage repayments, I also had to take into account all the essentials I needed. Like something to sit on, a fridge, toilet paper, food, you know, all that stuff.
As you know, all these things add up. You don’t realise how much, until you have to start from zilch. Well I did have a bed and clothes, and some lovely gifts from friends and family, so at least that was something!

Which brings me to buying this Amazon Kindle, which allows you to read ebooks. I love books! And I’ve desperately wanted the Kindle for so long. I could have put it on my credit card at this hard time, but I had so many other things to pay off, this was something that could wait.

So six months later, once my credit card was paid off, and I sold my car (A month ago) I rewarded myself and bought a Kindle. I appreciate it so much, because I waited so long and worked really hard to be able to buy myself something that wasn’t a necessity, but a luxury. It goes everywhere with me. And you’ll find that the enjoyment felt is intensified tenfold when you are using something that you worked so hard for.

Next thing on the wish list is the Apple Mac Laptop. But, I’ve decided to get one when my mortgage is down to my goal amount by the end of the year. So in December, check back and see if I’ve done it! icon smile Reward Yourself

Have you ever really wanted something and saved till you could buy it? Or had a goal in mind, and once you achieved it you rewarded yourself?

Would love to hear about it!

    >I really like this post, I´m trying hard to save for my first car to buy (second hand) at the end of the year when I will have finished my degree !! All things worth having are worth saving for. :)

    >Diana: I'm glad you like my post! That's a really great goal you have! I've done the same, and it's a great accomplishment once you've done it. Much better than having someone buy it for you. You really do appreciate it more when you've done it on your own.

    >Ah a kindle is so great. Despite loving the feel of physical book in my hands, my kindle has rewarded me with great selection of books, and I dont even have to walk out of my door to get a book. Oh it has to be the 3G one though! :) The annoying thing is if you get an Australian one via the Amazon US you have different selections because of copyright issues

    >Really great post and congratulations on your apartment (wow, what a huuuuuuuuuge step in life!) and new present, too.
I think it's important to treat yourself once in a while, but at the same time remain sensible and know the limits, so I buy beautiful "something" every few months and have a couple of luxury things in mind that I'll get as soon as I know I can afford them.

    >Congratulations on the kindle, it is a great achievement since up saved up for it and truly deserve it. I can relate to this post and it reminds me of a post you wrote a long time ago, maybe even a couple of years ago. It was about your car and how you had that goal of what you wanted and even had pictures of it and in the end you were able to buy it. I have found that really helpful recently and I was thinking about that post a number of times. Finally, after a lot of negative thoughts and feelings which I have posted about this year, I am feeling a little better and I know what I want to do with my life. I want to buy an apartment in a certain suburb of Sydney and I want to use your way as motivation. I have a goal now and I am sure I can achieve it. Thanks for your help.

How do you feel in your new home?
You managed to give it a decoration that you like? it is not always so simple, but is a soooo exciting moment :-) !! I spend my time myself looking for the perfect decor….so if you've got great ideas like in fashion.. :-) …lol

  • Joelyne

    >Jessie: Yes! I love living on my own. New chapter in my life :-) Not really much of a decorator. More a minimalist when it comes to the home I've discovered!

Raw fashion mag: My white lounge is my fave. On it every night on my laptop haha xxx

Imogen: Wow, I can't believe you remember that post I did. Good on you for discovering what you want in life. It takes a lot of patience and determination – but it's well worth it in the end. I'm glad my story helped x

Glam, Dee, Brooke & Poppy: Thank you so much! I love my new home :) x

Thank you for all your comments lovelies. Really like hearing from you all!
