The Sydney Girl | Makeup Mix

by Joelyne

Hello hunni bunnies! I am SUPER excited to be doing a new series that goes by the name of – The Sydney Girl | Makeup Mix!

Every now and then (and hopefully more often if you guys love it) I will be doing a self portrait, wearing my favourite makeup of the moment. This will hopefully help you create looks you love, and also show you how certain products turn out, for better or for worse (let’s hope for the better).

Makeup faves The Sydney Girl | Makeup Mix

Wearing: Loose Mineral Foundation thanks to Youngblood :

I have been wearing this foundation for MONTHS! Every.Single.Day. – with the occasional Sunday makeup free day. The great thing about it is that it provides buildable coverage. So I can have it light for work, and add a bit more coverage for events like parties or a wedding!

Speaking of weddings, I wore it here, when I went to the Hunter Valley. Everyone complimented how great my skin looked. And I couldn’t stop telling them that they had to try Youngblood Mineral Makeup.

I have very sensitive skin, so mineral makeup like Youngblood is perfect for me. And it’s always a plus when it gives UVA/UVB protection.

Lipgloss in ‘Sweet Pea’ thanks to SAX Cosmetics :

This lipgloss stays on my lips for hours. It gives the perfect shine and it’s a pleasure to put on when it smells like cupcakes. Usually glosses that have fragrances irritate my throat, but this one doesn’t at all. Ingredients include beeswax, jajoba oil, avocado oil, vitamin e & silk powder.

Also wearing:  Grow Luscious Mascara thanks to Revlon |  Blush in ‘Taffeta’ thanks to Arbonne Cosmetics

Do you like this look? I was going for a natural palette with a touch of pink (my favourite colour). Let me know if you would like to see more posts like this in the comments area below icon smile The Sydney Girl | Makeup Mix

Revlon & Jane Iredale | Makeup Review

by admin

Gosh I love doing makeup reviews! 1. Cause I love trying new products 2. Cause I enjoy putting makeup on 3. I help you guys make a good decision on purchasing makeup.

This makeup look is from Saturday. I did it especially for you guys – and then went FISHING after. How appropriate right?! A girl can look good going fishing, can’t she?! You know you’ve got it right when your boyfriend says “I like your lipstick! It’s better than all the other lipsticks you put on” And my response “Well, it’s actually a lip stain. And I like it better too!” (I must add, that George is pretty observant when it comes to these things, he’s got 3 older sisters!)

What I’m wearing:

IMG 9762 150x150 Revlon & Jane Iredale | Makeup ReviewJane Iredale Lip Fixation Lip Stain & Gloss in Passion: In the photos, I’m only wearing the lip stain, not the gloss on top as I love the matte look. I am amazed at how long it lasts. After lunch I had to top it up, and that was it. It feels great, and it doesn’t flake. I actually haven’t worn lip stain for years, due to the fact that when I used to, it would come off within a few hours, and would easily get flaky within the hour. I’m not sure what other lip stains these days are like, but this one is incredible. You are going to see a lot of me in this! I have also used the gloss on its own, which is long lasting itself, and very shiny!

IMG 9767 150x150 Revlon & Jane Iredale | Makeup ReviewJane Iredale Tantasia Self Tanner, Auto-Bronzant: When using this, no moisturizer is required. So I’ve been using this instead of moisturiser on my face for the past week. I have a light tan, but feel like my face looks healthier a bit darker (don’t wel all?) and I feel like this is doing the job. I would rather use this than tan from the Sun. From the directions: “Tantasia uses your skin’s natural tanning ability to build radiant, long-lasting colour. Smart sunless technology first senses, then enhances your skin’s most flattering shade.”

IMG 9763 150x150 Revlon & Jane Iredale | Makeup ReviewJane Iredale Pommisst Hydration Spray: This hydrates the skin and sets mineral powders. I spray this on after I have applied my makeup, and in the afternoon as a pick me up! Loving it and smells divine!

IMG 9761 150x150 Revlon & Jane Iredale | Makeup Review Jane Iredale Brunette Bitty Brow Kit: This brow kit include brow powder & wax, which is perfect for me because sometimes the hairs don’t behave and need to be waxed down!

IMG 9771 150x150 Revlon & Jane Iredale | Makeup ReviewRevlon Grow Luscious Mascara and Lash Liner: I have the waterproof and non waterproof mascara & both are a delight to wear. To get the plumped up lashes, it takes a few coats but in the end it looks fabulous. The lash liner I love and tend to use it mostly on the mid to outer corners for the day, like in the photos, to give a natural look. In the evening I go all out! I love how it goes on so smoothly and lasts all day. I’m using brown at the moment. Lashes become sronger with every application even after makeup removal. Revlon New Complexion Foundation: You only need to use a tiny bit, as a bit goes a mighty long way. It evenly spreads and doesn’t leave any residue. Really smooth with a nice matte finish. I wish it were a tiny bit darker for my tanned skin, and with a higher SPF. I have sensitive skin, and this doesn’t irritate it at all, and definitely lasts all day and keeps the oily skin away!

Jane Iredale Australia:

All mineral products, a makeup which is good for the skin.

Revlon New Complexion Oil-Control Makeup

by Joelyne
I’m really glad I got the opportunity to try out Revlon’s New Complexion Oil-Control Makeup before it hits stores in November, and share with you my thoughts.
For someone like me who likes to apply her foundation quite sheerly, but needs her face looking fresh and shine free, this makeup is fabulous. Applying it to the areas that need it, I can feel confident that my oily zones will remain unoily for the rest of the day!

It is best to apply the foundation with a makeup brush first, if you want a sheer coverage like me, and then use your fingertips to blend in a bit of moisturiser.

This Revlon makeup can be purchased for $24.95, from November, 2011.

What is your morning facial routine? Here’s mine!

by Joelyne
img77372 What is your morning facial routine? Heres mine!
Hi gorgeous people! So I wanted to share with you my daily morning face routine that I’ve been using for 5 years, minus the Inivisible Zinc and Cetaphil. Those 2 I’ve been using for the past 6 months. My skin has improved amazingly, in the time I’ve been using all these products. Through trial and error, I have found the skin care products with no fragrance are best.

Thank you to the ladies at The Laser Lounge for sharing their expert tips!

My routine as follows!

Step 1, Cleanse: Wash face with warm water and a face wash with no fragrance and pat dry. I use Dermeze soap free wash, which you can use on your face and body. My body is prone to eczema in some spots, so I have to be careful what I use!

On Sundays, I’ll use my Neutrogena Deep Clean wash. I find that my skin is too sensitive to use face wash everyday.

img77472 What is your morning facial routine? Heres mine!
Step 2, Tone: Blot Witch Hazel, which I use as a toner, onto a makeup pad and wipe all over face. A friend who studied Naturopathy told me to use this 7 years ago, because apparently most toners use this ingredient. It’s $7 to $10 dollars from the pharmacy. I recommended it to a friend who came from India, and was getting pimples on her face due to the new climate. She started using this toner along with Cetaphil Moisturiser, and her pimples slowly disappeared.

Step 3, Moisturise: Use a good amount of Cetaphil moisturiser all over face or any moisturiser which has no fragrance, and is good for sensitive skin. Sometimes it takes experimenting to find the right one for your skin.

Step 4, Apply Sunscreen: Use a good amount of Invisible Zinc tinted moisturiser with SPF 30+ all over face. After a friend told me how her tinted moisturiser with sunscreen acted like a light foundation, I wanted to try it. Stumbled across this aussie brand in Priceline for $32, and haven’t turned back. I love the glow it gives my skin, and the fact that it protects it. It lasts all day which is great, because I used to hate my skin looking dull in the afternoons. Don’t have that problem any more!

Step 5, Apply Make up: I usually do my blush first, because it makes me look so much healthier and awake in the mornings. I’ve been using Clinique for years, and it’s pretty fantastic. Allergy tested and 100% fragrance free. Quite reasonable price of $49 – well worth it. My eyebrows have areas that need to be filled in, and I like the definition the eyebrow pencil gives. I use Clarins, in brown which lasts me a year. It has a comb brush to keep them perfectly shaped. Also it lasts all day! For mascara I find that Dior Show works best on my lashes. It gives them a fullnes and length that looks natural and very pretty. I buy it off strawberrynet.com.au for around $35, free shipping!

Comvita HUNI®XA Manuka Honey Skincare Range: Review

by Joelyne

img7282t1 Comvita HUNI®XA Manuka Honey Skincare Range: Review

img7281 Comvita HUNI®XA Manuka Honey Skincare Range: Review

Ph by me.

I really enjoy learning about health and beauty – using good products and foods. I believe I have built up a good knowledge base and love sharing what I’ve learnt with you. Especially the fabulous brands I come across.

As you may or may not know, the current health and beauty trend revolves around Honey!

Jen, who sent me these lovely products, informed me that the natural antioxidant and anti-microbial properties in honey make it the perfect ingredient in health care products.

I’ve been using this new Comvita HUNI®XA Manuka Honey Skincare Range, mostly the soap and eye cream, for the last 2 weeks – they smell divine and really moisturise my skin without any irritation. I love the feel of it on my skin, and it’s good to know I’m using a product which uses a rare honey found in New Zealand’s remote, pollution free forests, Manuka Honey.

My colleague also educated me about the brand – she buys a jar of the Comvita® UMF® 20+ Manuka Honey once a year and has one tablespoon of it per day, which is extra potent & extra healthy, and very good for you, especially in winter – I’d love to try this.

I asked another colleague, who hasn’t tried Comvita products before, who is in her 40′s to try the eye cream. She usually uses Lancome eye cream ($200) which she feels hasn’t been working for her in the past 2 years. After she applied the Comvita eye cream ($45) , she was so surprised at how moisturising it was. In fact, she’s going to buy it today! I have converted her, and feel really good about it!

Here are some of the benefits of Comvita HUNI®XA™ Manuka honey:

  • reduced inflammation
  • high anti-oxidant content
  • promotes regeneration of the skin cells for wound healing
  • anti-bacterial activity

Do you use any Comvita products? Or any products with honey?

All you need to know about Laser Hair Removal

by Joelyne

img7127a All you need to know about Laser Hair Removal

Thanks to The Laser Lounge ladies!

Okay so you’ve all been asking me about laser hair removal, so here is the “real deal” from The Laser Lounge Ladies themselves…

Joelyne: How does laser hair removal work?

The Laser Lounge: Good question, as there’s more to it than just a simple zap zap zap!
The laser hair reduction process works by sending a beam of laser energy to a group of hair follicles with enough strength to target the root and the blood supply that assists in regenerating the hair.
The laser beam does not harm the surrounding skin as it finds the hair follicles by targeting melanin (the substance that gives hair colour). The Laser Lounge lasers also feature a patented skin-cooling device, which assists in providing clients a more safe and comfortable experience. Bear in mind that as laser targets melanin (colour), the process will not work well on people that have red, white, grey or blonde hair. For these clients, The Laser Lounge offers alternative hair reduction services.

Joelyne: Is laser hair removal safe?

The Laser Lounge: Another good question… For client safety to be upheld, we’d recommend clients to look out for clinics that are “certified” and only use medically graded and FDA/TGA approved laser technologies. Along with this, don’t be afraid to ask your Laser Therapist what their qualifications are and do enquire about their professional experience as a Laser Therapist. When combining the right machines with a qualified Laser Therapist, treatments can be very safe!

Joelyne: What do you mean by certified?

The Laser Lounge: Not everyone knows this, but unfortunately in NSW anyone can buy a laser hair removal machine from anyone/ anywhere and start treating clients (this is pretty scary!).Being “certified”, especially
Candela Certified 49089768 All you need to know about Laser Hair Removalgives confidence to clients that the Clinics and Laser and Skin Therapists are purchasing, servicing (whilst using legitimate consumables) and receiving government accredited training etc. In a nutshell, we’re promising our clients that we aren’t cutting any corners, risking our client’s safety just for the sake of saving a few dollars. Our best word of advice is, if the cheap, cheap, cheap deal sounds too good to be true, than it probably is. Follow your gut instinct!

Joelyne: Okay so be honest, how painful is laser hair removal?

The Laser Lounge: Beauty is pain (only kidding!). In all honesty, tolerance levels vary from person to person. In most cases clients will say that they felt no pain to feeling a flick/s of a rubber band. If you’re super sensitive, we’d suggest applying a numbing agent on the skin prior treatment. This will definitely make the experience more comfortable.

Joelyne: What do you recommend I do before my first laser hair removal treatment?

The Laser Lounge: It’s best to avoid the following activities for at least 2 to 4 weeks prior to your treatment:

• Sun exposure (apply SPF 30 + sunscreen daily)
• Solariums
• Topical fake tans
• Prescription strength exfoliants
• DO NOT use tweezers, wax, epi lady, electrolysis, thread or bleach

We recommend shaving or using depilatory creams 24 hours prior to your treatment to minimise sensitivity.
For the face, it is best to leave the area untouched or only use hair removal creams specifically for sensitive skin.

Joelyne: And what about after my laser hair removal treatment?

The Laser Lounge: Some clients may experience slight redness after a laser treatment (similar to a mild sunburn). If you experience this, wait till the redness calms down before resuming with normal activities.
Most especially avoid the following activities until the redness has disappeared:

• Use of prescription strength exfoliant creams
• Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/ chlorine
• Activities that cause excessive perspiration
• Sun exposure (apply SPF 30 + sunscreen daily on areas being treated)
• Solariums (cover all areas being treated)

Joelyne: Sooo, is laser hair removal permanent?

The Laser Lounge: We love this question as it’s very easy to be fooled! Laser hair removal treatments are VERY effective but no one can guarantee 100% permanence! At The Laser Lounge we guarantee permanent laser hair reduction. Our state of the art premium LASER is capable of 80 to 95% permanent hair reduction for most skin types, male and female, and can treat ALL body areas. The number of sessions needed to achieve these results may vary from person to person depending on several factors such as age, skin type, amount of hair, hair colour, hair texture, hormones etc. As we continually go through hormonal changes, of course it’s possible new hairs may form, however, you’ll never go back to what you first started with!

Joelyne: Alright, so then how can I tell if it works?

The Laser Lounge: You should see results after your VERY FIRST treatment. You will have fewer hairs and they will be finer and weaker. Your skin will be smoother and your pores less visible. The results will become more impressive with each successive treatment. Best of all, you won’t need to worry about ingrown hairs or after five shadows!

Joelyne: What about after my first treatment? How many more times do I need to get zapped?

The Laser Lounge: Lol! For best results, on average we recommend 6 to 8 treatments. This will allow hairs to be disabled effectively during the active growth phase in the Hair Growth Cycle (ooh techy). On some areas, such as the legs, faster results may be achieved and you can expect similar results for the bikini area, underarms, chest area and upper arms. Other areas such as the face and/or back may take a few additional treatments (as they are more hormonal). After completing possibly 6 to 8 treatments, client’s will more than likely require maintenance touch ups 1 to 3 times a year.

Joelyne: How long between getting zapped?

The Laser Lounge: On average we recommend treating clients anywhere between 4 to 8 weeks apart (depending on the area). The beauty about laser is, it’s completely the opposite to waxing and you don’t need to wait for the hair to grow back before treating the area. No more Gorilla Legs!

Joelyne: How will I look after being zapped?

The Laser Lounge: One word – SMOOTH! Lol! The treated area will be cleared of the majority of visible hairs during the treatment. Remaining treated hairs will shed in approximately 10 to 14 days. Depending on the area, the skin will remain clear and smooth for 4 to 6 weeks before seeing fine hairs starting to grow again. By repeating the sessions on schedule the area should remain hair free and/or have minimal hair growth throughout the entire treatment course and you will achieve permanent hair reduction.

Joelyne: So will any medications effect the treatment and/or hormonal conditions?

The Laser Lounge: Certain medications may affect your laser treatment if they are photosensitive (such as Roaccutane and Retin A which can cause pigmentation). If you are taking any medications it is best to advise your Laser Therapist so they can offer you the best advice.

Re hormones – To remain hair free, touch up maintenance like treatments will be required more frequently for most clients with hormonal conditions. In particular, females who are experiencing Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) can achieve excellent results over the entire body, but to remain hair free on the face, touch up treatments may be required every 3 to 6 months.

Joelyne: I have some fine hair, would you treat that?

The Laser Lounge: We recommend not treating areas where the hair is too fine and sparse. In the best interest of clients, we may not treat these areas to avoid stimulation of hair growth. If you are uncertain whether you should treat an area of concern that’s when it’s best to book in a consultation and ask your Laser Therapist for their professional advice. At The Laser Lounge we always say, “we’re hear to reduce, not produce!”

Joelyne: One last question, so what’s the BIG difference between Laser and IPL?

The Laser Lounge: There is definitely a BIG difference between hair removal devices and their total treatment effectiveness. It’s a little technical, but firstly, Laser is monochromatic (one light colour) where as IPL (Intense Pulse Light) has various colours decreasing the treatment outcome as only some colours target hair reduction.

The Laser energy is also coherent, meaning that the light is totally reinforcing and doesn’t cancel itself out whereas IPL isn’t. In saying this, IPL, although not seen as the best method for hair removal, it does work very well for skin rejuvenation treatments but that’s a whole other blog! Hehe.

Laser Hair Removal – Review

by Joelyne

img7130edit Laser Hair Removal Review
Laser Hair Removal – I wish I jumped on the bandwagon years ago! I tried it for the first time last week over at The Laser Lounge – Sydney CBD. Why there? Because they use the ‘Rolls Royce’ of certified, medical graded laser technologies, and are run by professionally certified Laser and Skin Therapists. It’s not a ‘beauty salon’ it’s a beauty clinic – and that makes me feel safe.Here is my feedback, cause I like to give you the real goss;

? First things first, yes it’s painful. But as my mum always says, No Pain, No Gain icon smile Laser Hair Removal Review And it’s over so quickly! If I can do it, anyone can.

? Hot & Cold sensation – The Laser Lounge’s medical grade laser, has a built in cooling device which sprays cool cryogen gas in order to protect my skin, before the laser energy targets my hair. This cooling sensation makes the treatment more comfortable and faster than other hair removal devices. You’re encouraged to focus on the cold sensation – this got me through it. Oh and the stress ball helped also! I’m a clencher!

? I had my underarms, upper lip and a brazilian treatment. A few weeks later it grows as stubble, and then falls out. Amazingness. My next treatment is scheduled for 6 weeks.

Product Review Time – Neutrogena Deep Clean

by Joelyne

neutrogenaphoto Product Review Time Neutrogena Deep Clean
As you all know I LOVE sharing with you products that I trial & test that work excellently for me.

This morning, in my mad rush to get ready for work, I went through a different than usual face routine. Why I chose this morning, I don’t know – but don’t you worry, I made it to work on time, with a fresh face.

I usually wash my face with very warm water and use a little soap. Then tone & moisturise. But today, I added a deep CLEANSER to my routine. Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser in fact, and boy have I been missing out.

My face feels super clean & soft, and now I don’t have my usual dull & dry looking face in the afternoon, but a bright and healthy one. So if you don’t have a good cleanser in your routine (like I didn’t), I highly recommend this one.
