Have you thought about having a facelift before? Are you unsure about what it entails and whether it is right for you? If so then we are going to try and allay some of your fears today and answer some of those burning questions which you may have. I have had many face lifts in the Chicago area over the years and I can honestly say that I have always been more than happy with the results. I thought I could use my experience therefore, to help you to decide whether or not this is the right course of action for you.
What Is It Exactly?
A facelift or a rhytidectomy as it is often referred, is a surgical procedure which seeks to get rid of signs of aging in the skin. Skin and muscles can change over the years and they can often start to lose their tone and shape. a Face lift seeks to fix this by changing the shape of the face, tightening certain areas and removing areas of far in order to get the desired result.
Am I a Good Candidate?
This is a procedure which can help many different people and if you have saggy skin below your chin and around your neck, or you have a sagging neck line then you may be the perfect candidate for this procedure.
Does It Hurt?
When you go in for this operation you will be put under a general anesthetic, the reason for this is that the surgeon will be making incisions in and around the face and neck, which of course you do not want to be awake for.
How Do They Do It?
When surgeons perform a facelift they will make incisions below the ears and then they will lift up the skin and begin to tweak or remove whatever is needed. The skin is then tightened and any excess will be removed before they sew up the skin and allow it to recover. There will be almost no scarring on the skin because of the location of the incision and because of the high standards which these surgeons work to. Even if there is some small scarring you may very well be able to cover this with your hair.
Recovery Time?
The days and weeks after your surgery will be uncomfortable and you can expect some bruising and swelling after the operation. The swelling will reduce within a week and the bruising may stay for around 2 to 3 weeks. During this time you will have some bandages applied for the immediate couple of days after the op and stitches will come out around 2 weeks later. The only things that you may struggle with is some headaches or dizziness as the skin gets used to its new form.
Facelifts can last between 7 and 10 years if you care for your skin properly and they can greatly help people to look younger and to get their confidence back.
